Find out the most important advice given by our consultant and the most adequate medical responses for each particular case.
The postoperative medical recovery, assisted by our consultants in kinesiotherapy, will begin shortly after the surgical intervention. The recovery process begins while the patient is still in bed and two days after surgery the patient will resume walking. The exercises are progressive and are dosed depending on each patient’s capacity.
Upon discharge, you will receive specific indications that include the movements that you are allowed to make in the coming period.
The recovery period, i.e. the number of days from the moment of the intervention until the patient resumes normal life, depends on the patient's condition:
Condition | Recovery period |
---|---|
Cemented hip replacement (implantation of hip prosthesis)td> | 3 months |
Cement-free hip replacement (implantation of hip prosthesis) | 3 months |
Cemented knee replacement (implantation of knee prosthesis) | 3 months |
Cement-free knee replacement (implantation of knee prosthesis) | 3 months |
Knee arthroscopy | 2-3 weeks |
Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction | 3-6 months |
Reduction and osteosynthesis | Depending on the location and on the type of fracture |
Forefoot surgery - hallux valgus (hammertoe/knots) | 4 weeks |
Percutaneous disc nucleoplasty for the reduction of the spinal disc herniation | 10 days |
Tumours of the osteoarticular system | Depending on the location and on the type of fracture |
Depending on the patient's condition the hospitalization period is indicated below:
Condition | No. of hospitalisation days |
---|---|
Cemented hip replacement (implantation of hip prosthesis) | 7-9 |
Cement-free hip replacement (implantation of hip prosthesis) | 7-9 |
Cemented knee replacement (implantation of knee prosthesis) | 7-9 |
Cement-free knee replacement (implantation of knee prosthesis) | 7-9 |
Knee arthroscopy | 2 |
Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction | 3 |
Reduction and osteosynthesis | 3 |
Forefoot surgery - hallux valgus (hammertoe/knots) | 3 |
Percutaneous disc nucleoplasty for the reduction of spinal disc herniation | 1 |
Tumours of the osteoarticular system | Depend on each case |
The type of anaesthesia is decided by the anaesthesiologist for each particular case after performing a clinical and a paraclinical exam of the patient.
On the day of admission, the patient will undergo the pre-anaesthesia examination. Depending on the associated pathology and together with the anaesthesiologist, we will decide the type of anaesthesia that is recommended in your case.
Usually, ligament tears occur as a result of traumas (on the sports field, in car accidents or falls).
In case of knee ligament tear, the patient presents with the following symptomatology:
If the patient does not undergo surgery, this instability will persist and, in time, it will affect the other elements of the knee (meniscuses, cartilages); finally leading to arthrosis.
Depending on the surgical intervention that the patient has undergone, there are different recovery periods and implicitly different periods of resuming sports activities for pleasure and/or performance. These periods are different for each patient and they may last between 3 weeks and 6 months.
The main contraindications of autohemotherapy are:
Pain management is one of our main objectives in the treatment of patients; therefore we pay close attention to the therapy of pain. This is the responsibility of the surgeon and of the anaesthesiologist, who do their best to provide postoperative comfort to each patient.
In case of infection:
In case of deep venous thrombosis (DVT):
In case of pulmonary embolism (passage of a thrombus fragment into the lung):
