If the patient is a candidate for coronary bypass, the aims of the intervention are:

To improve the quality of life and to reduce the frequency of angina attacks and of other symptoms related to coronary diseases;

To resume a more active lifestyle;

To improve the heart's capacity to pump, if it has been affected by a myocardial infarction;

To lower the risk of myocardial infarction (in certain patients, such as those suffering from diabetes mellitus);
-
To improve the chances of survival.
