Who is not eligible for autotransfusion?

The main contraindications of autohemotherapy are:

  • Some blood diseases: if there is a risk of haemolysis or coagulation disorders;
  • Hepatic or renal dysfunctions;
  • The mixing of blood with irrigation agents or with other substances that might be used during the surgical intervention or that can contaminate the blood (intestinal content, fat, gastric juice, pancreatic juice, urine, vaginal or nasal secretions, infected tissue, primary tumorous fragments, metastases etc.)
