What will happen in the event of a ligament tear in the knee joint?

Usually, ligament tears occur as a result of traumas (on the sports field, in car accidents or falls).

In case of knee ligament tear, the patient presents with the following symptomatology:

  • During the first week the patient presents with pain, tumefaction (joint swelling), joint instability;
  • In time, pain and tumefaction disappear. However, the patients present with an instability that varies in amplitude.

If the patient does not undergo surgery, this instability will persist and, in time, it will affect the other elements of the knee (meniscuses, cartilages); finally leading to arthrosis.
